Annually, I host an Anti-Valentines Day party for my girlfriend group. This will continue unless I happen to meet my soulmate. So yeah, annually from here on out. 🙂
I’m not going to lie and claim that Valentine’s Day doesn’t make me bitter. It absolutely feels like it was created just to emphasize that one is not in a relationship. So the Anti-Valentine’s Day party is my way of taking back this holiday and turning it into something I can look forward to and enjoy.
Since it is an “anti” party, you can’t do anything that you would do if you were actually celebrating Valentine’s Day with someone special. With that in mind, I’ve outlined some ideas below:
Venue – What is the most unromantic restaurant? McDonald’s. However, my group needed a place to sit that was larger than most tables in McDonald’s, so we hold it at a local Mexican restaurant chain called Rosa’s Cafe Tortilla Factory. Refried beans are VERY unromantic.
If you are celebrating in your home, you can really play up the decorations. Black is the color of choice. Love Stinks is the theme. Pinterest is a great place for inspiration. Check out the links below.

Oriental Trading – Anti Valentine’s Pinata
Attire – No red. No pink.
Fun – We hold a white elephant gift exchange. Maximum is $10 and the idea is to bring the most unromantic gift you can think of. I’m talking cleaning supplies, toilet paper, self-help books, etc. Watching grown women fight over a plunger is a good time, take my word for it!!
Food – Since I hold my party at a restaurant it’s pretty much taken care of, but if you are celebrating at home, again, Pinterest has outstanding ideas for what to serve as well – everything from custom cocktails to cupcakes decorated with knives.
