Boredom is definitely settling in from being inside all the time due to the pandemic. So instead of watching yet another episode of Criminal Minds on Netflix, I decided to do a house crawl and search for other things to occupy my time. I went from room to room and asked myself the following questions.
What does the room need?
What would make it look better?
Are there things here to entertain me?
Are there pet projects I can accomplish?
After doing this, I now have a long list of things to choose from the next time a wave of boredom hits me. I also have a list of possible items to purchase and the luxury of being able to take my time looking online for the right choice and the right price.
Of course, if you do this, your list will be different from mine, but I thought I would include mine as an example.
Living Room:
Needs
more lighting, peg holder to hold dog leash and keys
Would Look Better With
artwork over the tv and by the bookcase, sturdier throw pillows for the couch, new folding screen, another bookshelf, a new dog bed
Things to Entertain
go through Maya’s books in the bookcase and find some I want to read, organize a themed movie marathon, reminisce through old yearbooks and scrapbooks
Pet Projects
go thru DVDs and get rid of ones I’m never going to watch again, clean marks off the walls, dust the items on the bookcase

Kitchen:
Needs
free up more counter space, use space on top of the fridge to possibly free up space on counters or cabinets, new potholders
Would Look Better With
drawer and cabinet organizers to maximize space, the boombox we use for music for the pets when we are away from home moved somewhere more hidden, trash can moved to a different location
Things to Entertain
flip through recipe books and find some new dishes to try, look on Pinterest for ideas on creating a cool tea/coffee center
Pet Projects
see what spices have expired, figure out what dishes I’m not using and either begin using them or give them away, fix the broken drawers

Dining Room:
Needs
tea lights in sconces lit from time to time
Would Look Better With
Centerpiece?,table runner?, table always with place settings?, with the game basket moved elsewhere
Things to Entertain
adult color books, board games
Pet Projects
fix wobbly legs on chairs

Laundry:
Needs
better use of the shelf, new towels
Would Look Better With
a basket to hold towels or supplies?
Pet Projects
Launder bathroom rugs and throw blankets
Bedroom:
Needs
new sheets, more toys for the cat, new clothes
Would Look Better With
more storage/shelves, plants
Things to Entertain
journal, send cards and letters, listen to CDs
Pet Projects
decide if I’m ever wearing high heels again and if not, get rid of them, get a new litterbox and find a better place for it, go through files and shred what isn’t needed anymore, use hooks for necklaces/bracelets to free up a small shelf for purses, clear off the ledge in front of window for the cat

Bathroom:
Needs
find a really good cleaning product for the tub, new bathrobe
Would Look Better With
over the sink shelf, artwork, hanging cabinet, small magazine rack
Things to Entertain
try out new hairstyles, try out makeup tips and tutorials
Pet Projects
throw out old makeup and toiletries, charge electric toothbrush, replace vanity lights
Patio:
Needs
make this area a more livable space (decor), metal corner shelf, light cover
Would Look Better With
greenery (herb garden, grow some vegetables, flowers or plants), more colorful rug, more comfortable furniture (bench?)
Things to Entertain
eat some meals outside
Pet Projects
clean out the storage closet and maximize space and shelves, clean sliding glass doors

Would love to hear some things off your list. Leave a comment below.
Why is there never a good place for the litterbox?
