My parents are coming to town for Christmas and being completely over the commercialism of the holiday, we’ve decided this one is going to be focused on enjoying each other’s company and experiences instead of presents and shopping..
Here is a list of low cost or free things to celebrate the holidays.
Don’t waste money on those kits. Buy some graham crackers, frosting and various candies. Either build a graham cracker mansion together or have a competition to see who comes up with the best creation..
Pile everyone into the car and take a drive and admire the effort others put into creating spectacular displays.
Sing Little Songbird
Gather the friends and family and go caroling. Maybe instead of knocking on doors, just find an open spot outside and give those close by an impromptu concert.
Get out all those holiday themed movies or stream them through Netflix, Hulu or Disney+ and play a different movie each night that you are together. Pop some popcorn or settle in with hot chocolate.
Do You Have Snow?
Build a snowman, make snow angels or have an epic snowball fight.
Two For One
Gather your friends and have everyone bring something that is already in their house to wrap and exchange via white elephant rules. Ask everyone to bring a food dish to share as well for a Christmas Pot Luck.
Pinterest is a great reference for cheap or easy to make holiday themed crafts or ornaments. Here’s a sampling of what you will find.
Find a homeless shelter or volunteer at the Salvation Army and help serve a meal. Give a hand to animal shelters by feeding and walking furry treasures. Or bake a bunch of goodies and share them with people that have to work during Christmas.
Dust off those board games you have shoved into a closet. Spark everyone in your family’s competitive side just make sure to quit before it gets too intense.
Something To Hold
Remember when you actually had pictures you could hold and flip through. Pull out the albums and boxes holding those precious memories and reminisce.
Wishing all of you precious time with friends and family this season!
